My son came home with a fun list of phobia from Sunday School last week. The assignment was to figure out if all 10 of these phobias were real. Then make up some of your own phobia words!
- Arithmophobia is the fear of numbers.
- Didaskaleinophobia is the fear of going to school.
- Gataphobia is the fear of cats.
- Kathisophobia is the fear of sitting down.
- Leukophobia is the fear of the color white.
- Papyrophobia is the fear of paper.
- Verbophobia is the fear of words.
- Clinophobia is the fear of going to bed.
- Ambulophobia is the fear of walking.
- Ablutophobia is the fear of bathing.
A phobia is defined as the unrelenting fear of a situation, activity, or thing that causes one to want to avoid it. The three types of phobias are social phobia (fear of public speaking, meeting new people, or other social situations), agoraphobia (fear of being outside), and specific phobias (fear of particular items or situations).
Do you have any phobias? Some fears incapacitate people to the point that they can't leave their house, take a shower or function. Some fears make people wear gloves, hats, strange clothing or strings on their fingers to keep them "brave."
Here are some of my favorite phobias:
Agateophobia- Fear of insanity.
Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia- Fear of long words.
Macrophobia- Fear of long waits.

I have lots of fears, but so far I have managed to keep them from reaching the phobia stage. Notice I said SO FAR! One never knows. I fear things that are out of my control and also think I have a bit of claustrophobia. I DO NOT like to be in place that I can't exit easily... elevators, airplanes, smal confined spaces, scuba diving is a BIG no no! Thanks for the post - I love all the fun words and wondering if they are real. You never did say what Justin's word means?
You have to guess what it means:) It means fear of video games.
All 10 of them are real phobia words!
Have a good fearless Friday!
PAM!! You can't ask a question like that and then give the answer in your comment!! That spoils the fun.
I was going to guess fear of losing TV viewing rights.
Fun post My fav is the fear of long words thing.
The cranky Old Man
That's such a cute project! =)
Thanks for following me! Following back! =)
Sorry, Cranky, but Suerae asked, so I had to answer. Next time I will wait until the end of the day:)
Thanks for visiting Tiffany!
Well my guess was correct :) I am a new follower and I added your button to my blog. Thank you for doing the same.
Hey Pam! You know I'm already a follower, but I've come over specifically from the friday hop on MBS.
This looks like a really fun activity! Some of those things seem crazy! Like, who is afraid of paper?! LOL. I guess someone somewhere was, or else there wouldn't need to be a name for it.
Thanks Pam for mentioning my blog and for the birthday wishes!! :) The names that they give for phobias are so interesting and at the same time so difficult to understand. It makes me wonder why they don't use the normal words that people use. Instead of arachnophobia, why can't we just call it "spider-phobia"? We could change acrophobia (fear of heights) to "heights-o-phobia". Food for thought. :)
Brae, Maybe they are afraid of paper cutting them? Thanks for visiting!
Kristen, you are very welcome! You deserve it! Good question...my son came up with a weird word too, wasn't quite video game ophobia.
Easy, thanks for adding my button! Happy blogging!
New gfc follower ....thanks for the hop.

Hi, Pam!
What an awesome site you are running here! The only phobia I think I have is an insane fear to blood but I don’t know if there’s a name for it (bloodyphoia?). I used to faint when blood was taken from me. I had to learn to overcome (partially) to it just to be present in my children births (Made it to all of three).
Great post!
Hi Pam,
Phobias are a fun topic unless you are afraid of phobias. What is the phobia of phobias? Anyways, I am going to visit your friends page now since I do have a slight flying fear.
really cute, and the whole photo-shoot is awesome! Great blog dear, congrats! Would you like to visit mine, and why not follow each-other? Let me know:
Gustavo, Glad you were able to be there for your wife...fear of blood is called hemophobia:)
Traci, Kristen has a great blog, you will love it.
Thanks to all for visiting!
Loved it! I have severe arachnophobia...the day I actually killed a spider that was crawling closer to my son, Matthew (12) says "way to conquer your fears mom" LOL
I will avoid killing a spider at all costs...I can't even look at one...Even in a book, TV etc...YUCKO!
Would the vidiphobia happen to be afraid of not being able to play videos? LOL
I've always loved that the fear of long words is such a long word. Someone was being cruel when they thought up that one!
I have selachophobia.
Lacey
Lacey, thanks for visiting. You phobia reminds me of what a great movie Soul Surfer was. My son and I watched it twice!
Hoosier, spiders can be sneaky when they know you are afraid of them! His word means fear of video games.
Thanks for visiting.
Happy Blogging!
You know what Pam, you are so right! Spiders actually seek me out!!! For real!!!
