Your old panythose can do what?

I found a really useful book at the library last week: Uncommon Uses for Common Household Products by the editors or FC&A.  I wanted to share some interesting uses for your old panythose:

  1. Pack tight and pack right:  The next time you pack for a trip, roll up your garments, and slide the bulky items into pantyhose tubes.  (cut the foot and panty off a leg).  This keeps everything from unrolling and results in a neater suitcase.
  2. Stow away wrapping paper: To keep partially used rolls of wrapping paper from getting torn, put them inside the leg of an old pair of pantyhose.  If you have several rolls, you can put a roll in each leg and drape it over a hanger, one leg on each side, and hang it in your closet.
  3. Great for vacation souvenirs: Fill an old, clean pantyhose leg with your collection of seashells form the beach or rocks for a hiking trail.  Knot the end and you've got a great way to transport your treasures home.
  4. Stash onions: Keep onions handy and dry by storing them in the leg of an old pair of pantyhose.  Just drop the onions in one at a time and tie a knot between each one.  Hang in a cool, dry place.  Whenever you need an onion, just snip one off with scissors.
  5. Make a thrifty scrubber: Wrap a piece of pantyhose around a sponge to make an inexpensive scrubber.
  6. Flour baking pans with ease: Fill the foot of an old, clean pantyhose leg with flour and keep it in your canister.  The next time you have to flour a baking pan, just shake the foot lightly.  This also works well if you need a floured surface to roll out bread or pastry.
  7. Make Fido a tug toy: You'll need 9 single legs, so cut and separate what you need.  Tie all of them together at the top, then separate them into 3 groups of 3.  Braid each group and knot at the bottom.  You've got a great tug-of-war toy.  Just make sure your furry friend doesn't chew off and swallow any pieces.
What have you done with your old pantyhose?

I wonder if the onion idea will work for potatoes too...

I don't see why not. I know we used to make potato cabbage patch doll faces out of pantyhose:)
Thanks for visiting!

Lots of great tips here, Pam. Thanks.

I remember when I was a girl, there was a craze in the neighbor about making flower corsages out of old hosery. (This was before the days of pantyhose). I think thin wire was used for the frame of the petals. They were really pretty.

These are great ideas! I have an entire drawer full of this dang things - and here I was thinking the only way to have fun with them was to put them over your entire face and pull upwards....we did that as kids with my moms lol...ah memories...
